Distilling the DC FanDome comic book panels

Last week’s DC FanDome was the biggest ComicCon related online event ever, with over 22 million viewers across 220 countries and territories. That’s not counting the second installing coming September 12th. With those numbers, it’s hard to make an argument that they couldn’t do this every year–with or without ComicCon.

While most of the focus was on TV and Movie news, comic book fans had plenty of information.

The Sandman Universe: Enter the Dreaming – Panel

Yvette Nicole Brown hosted the Sandman discussion panel with Neil Gaiman, Dirk Maggs, G. Willow Wilson, and Michael Sheen. While they discussed upcoming audiobook adaptations and the Netflix TV show, Gaiman talked about the origin of the story of how DC approached him to write a series in his late 20s.

G. Willow Wilson answered several questions about the new comic book series The Dreaming: Waking Hours. “I was already reading the Death outfit, not knowing what it was,” Wilson said. Wilson talked about discovering the new character Ruin as a result of working through her insomnia. Gaiman commented about incorporating his nightmares during the first year of writing into the story. “I’d wake up so happy,” Gaiman said, “put in the details about whatever the nightmare was.”

Milestone Returns

Mentioned in our previous post, Milestone heroes are coming back! It was a surprise panel (not scheduled). Marc Bernardin hosted the panel, and it featured Milestone co-founder Denys Cowan and Jim Lee, Reginald Hudlin, and veteran voice actor and voice of Static Phil Lamaar.

The panel confirmed the digital-first Static Shock ongoing series, an Icon & Rocket series, and digital releases of the back catalog on sites like Comixology. No word of a printed collected edition. However, digital-first comics often get some form of a printed edition later on.

Comic book fans can expect more information during the September 12th installment.
