Marvel’s 616 coming to Disney+ this September

Yes, 616, the comic book universe! Not the movie universe. And more specifically, the art and background from the creators that drive Marvel’s “House of Ideas”.

Marvel’s 616 is a streaming series for Disney+ that brings the artists and writers together in this multi-episode documentary starting in September. More details to come during Marvel’s Comic-Con@Home panel tomorrow at 1 pm PST.

What we know from the clips provided so far, for example, shows the origin of Ms. Marvel coming from the popularity of Captain Marvel, and the inspiration of VP Sana Amanat’s childhood and how it grew from there. In the clip, G. Willow Wilson hesitancy and almost disbelief in getting to write a Muslim heroine. She even joked about Marvel needing to hire an intern to handle all the hate mail.

Another clip covers the lesser-known and obscure Marvel characters with even more obscure origin stories that intrigued writers like Gerry Duggan and Donny Cates. These “lost and found” characters include Black Panther, a lesser-known character at the time of Stan Lee, brought back in a big way by writer Reginald Hudlin.
